Ankunft in Österreich

Arriving in Austria

If you arrive at Vienna International Airport, take the shuttle bus Vienna Airport Lines (Postbus) from the airport to the train station called “Wien Bahnhof Meidling”. From there trains to Graz leave every hour (duration ~ 2h30). Further information: www.oebb.at/en/  

If you arrive at Graz Airport (Flughafen Graz Thalerhof), transportation is possible either by taxi or public transportation: >>LINK<<

Registration in Graz

Within three days of your arrival in Austria, you have to register with the city authorities (‘Magistrat’). If you stay in a hotel, you are registered automatically when checking in. 

If you register yourself, you are required to fill in a registration form ("Meldezettel"), have it signed by the landlord/landlady and hand it in at the address below. Please bring along your passport. Registration forms are available at the registration office or as downloads.

If you change your address during your stay in Graz, you must not forget to re-register. Also, you must not forget to cancel your registration before you leave Graz.

Health Insurance & Medical Assistance

If you are employed at the University of Graz there is automatic coverage of health insurance. Additional information will be provided by the Human Resources Department.

All other guests/visitors need to make sure they have adequate health insurance for the whole duration of their stay before arrival. More information: >>LINK<< 

In Austria you may choose your own physician, general or specialist, by making your own appointment. You may also go to the university hospital clinic at the "Landeskrankenhaus" or to "Steiermärkische Gebietskrankenkasse" itself. In very urgent cases during the night or on weekends you may call the Doctor’s Emergency Service (Ärztenotdienst).
