In 2012, the University of Graz established "The Americas" (North, Central and South America) as its second regional focus, aiming to strengthen the existing cooperations in these regions as well as to set up new partnerships and collaborative efforts. As a result, several universities in "The Americas" have become strategic partners of the University of Graz.
The Center for Inter-American Studies (C.IAS) is a research institution in the field of Inter-American Studies coordinating research, teaching, collaboration, and outreach of the University of Graz regarding North, Central, and South America. By engaging in an interdisciplinary analysis of new conceptual approaches which redefine the Americas (“The Americas – Las Américas – Les Amériques”), and by exploring historical, economic, political, social and cultural contexts of these regions, the Center for Inter-American Studies implements the strategy of the University of Graz concerning one of its defined strategic focus regions. In addition, the Center provides the University of Graz as a Central European institution of higher learning a platform for transregional collaboration on a transatlantic level.
The University of Graz is a partner in the scholarship program "Science without Borders" of the Brazilian government, which provides funding for Brazilian BA, Master or PhD study stays at the University of Graz.
The Office of International Relations offers mobility grants to university staff for activities related to the strategic focus "The Americas" that concern the seven research core areas. You can find more information on grant application here:
