Challenges and Opportunities of Leadership within the Context of EU Accession: Croatia as a Case Study
On July 1, 2013 Croatia will become the 28th member state of the European Union after a long application process. Croatia applied for EU membership in 2003, negotiations took place between 2005 and 2011. The panel will discuss political, economic, social, historical, and cultural issues relating to the aspect of leadership – both on side of the EU as well as of Croatia – in terms of challenges and opportunities faced within this process. In addition, the panel will attempt an outlook on the enlargement policy of the EU and the challenges and opportunities this provides for the member states and the neighbouring regions.
