You have received a spot at a partner institution? Now you need to prepare for your stay. Here you can find out what you need to pay attention to.
Note: the information on this page refers to the preparation for stays in the academic year 2023/24 and is constantly being revised due to updated program regulations.
Language Assessment: Online Language Support
Before the mobility, you have to take a language test offered by the European Commission on the EU Academy platform. This step is obligatory for you if your main language of instruction in the host country is one of the following languages (except native speakers):
Bulgarian | Italian | Portuguese |
Danish | Irish* | Romanian |
German | Croatian | Swedish |
English | Latvian | Slovenian |
Estonian | Lithuanian | Slovak |
Finnish | Maltese | Spanish |
French | Dutch | Czech |
Greek | Polish | Hungarian |
* only a language test available.
Well before your stay, you will receive an email with more information and instructions on how to take the test.
Don’t Worry! The language test is not a selection criterion for Erasmus+.
Insurance in the host country
The award of an Erasmus+ International student mobility does not include insurance cover. It is your responsibility to take out adequate health, accident and liability insurance for the duration of your stay abroad. It is best to contact your current insurance company directly if you have any questions.
The Student union fee includes an accident and general liability insurance in several countries abroad. Only accidents and damages caused in the course of study are covered, not privately. For more information, see https://www.oeh.ac.at/service/versicherung.
Check if you have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). For more information, see here. In order to use the EHIC abroad, the data fields on the back of the e-card must be fully filled out. If the data fields are filled with asterisks, it is not considered proof of claim. If you do not have a valid EHIC, you should contact your health insurance provider for a "certificate as a provisional replacement for the EHIC" in good time before the start of your trip.
Accomodation in the host country
Some host institutions provide accommodation or assist in finding suitable accommodation. Please check which options are available in the host country.
Visa and travel warnings
Depending on the country in which your stay will take place, we recommend that you independently contact the competent representative authority of the country in Austria well in advance. Please make sure that you allow enough time to apply for your visa before your planned trip.
If you have to apply for a visa, please contact the respective authority for further information:
Learning Agreement & Pre-recognition notification
Before the start of your mobility, you must submit a Learning Agreement (LA) signed by you, the host institution and the University of Graz. You can download a template from Mobility-Online.
In addition, a pre-recogntion notification (in German Vorausbescheid - VB) is required in Austria. It is the legal basis for the recognition of courses completed abroad and is processed via UNIGRAZonline. The VB is issued by the competent faculty and is mandatory in addition to the LA. Attention: please take into consideration that it takes around 6 weeks to have the VB signed!
Upload the signed LA and the confirmed VB to Mobility-Online within the specified deadlines:
- Stays beginning in the winter semester 2023/24 until 30.06.2023
- Stays in the summer semester 2024 until 15.11.2023
Note: If you do not submit the signed Learning Agreement and the confirmed pre-recognition notification, we will withdraw your nomination at the host institution.
Important information:
-
Joint Programme Students going on their mandatory mobility semester do not need a pre-recognition notification (VB) - only the LA is required. In case of an additional mobility, the pre-recognition notification is required.
-
You should complete the equivalent of 30 ECTS credits per semester spent abroad. These ECTS must be recognized for your studies at the University of Graz which means that you should still have enough ECTS available in your studies when you go abroad. As a minimum requirement, you must complete 3 ECTS credits (recognized in Graz) per month of stay. If you are writing a thesis (Master's thesis, dissertation ...), the ECTS credits awarded by the supervisor for the successful progress in your work are also considered. In case of free electives, keep in mind that they must be recognized in your curriculum.
-
If your host university requires the Learning Agreement for the application, prepare the pre-recognition notification at the same time. Consider the processing time of the faculty, so that you do not miss the application deadline at the host institution.
-
If you do not submit the signed Learning Agreement and the confirmed pre-recognition notification, we will withdraw your nomination at the host institution.
- To create the LA and the VB, follow the instructions according to the faculty of your study programme. You can find more information in this document.
More information:
After we have informed your host institution, that you have been selected for a spot at their institution, they will send you an email with information on the upcoming steps. You must then apply to the host institution.
Information about the respective submission deadlines and documents can be obtained from your host institution. Gather information about the deadlines and the application documents soon enough to ensure you have enough time for the application!
