Stays abroad

For students

Improving your language skills? Increasing the job opportunities? Making international contacts? Expanding your horizon?

There are many good reasons to spend a part of your studies abroad: take advantage of our offers and find out about the different possibilities for stays abroad during your studies.

Study visits are used to attend courses abroad - depending on the program, a stay is also possible to work on and complete a thesis. You apply for a partner institution or network of the University of Graz.

Note:The term Europe refers to geographical Europe.

Erasmus+ mobility
Europe

  • all levels of study (Bachelor/Master/Diploma/Doctorate)
  • Bachelor students: stay possible from 3rd semester
  • Duration: 1-2 semesters (at least 3 months)
  • Financial grant up to 460 euros per month (depending on country)
 

Erasmus+ International
Europe & outside of Europe

  • all levels of study (Bachelor/Master/Diploma/Doctorate)
  • Bachelor students: stay possible from 3rd semester
  • Duration: 1-2 semesters (at least 3 months)
  • Financial grant: 700 euros per month of stay and travel allowance up to 1,500 euros (one-time payment)
 

ISEP
Outside of Europe

  • For bachelor/master and diploma students
  • Bachelor students: stay possible from 3rd semester
  • Duration: 1-2 semesters

Joint Study
Outside of Europe

  • For bachelor/master and diploma students
  • Bachelor students: stay possible from 3rd semester
  • Duration: 1-2 semesters
  • Financial grant: 300-400€ per month (depending on country)

  • For bachelor/master and diploma students

With these programs, you have to find a place for your study or research stay yourself and before applying for the grants. The following programmes are available:

Grant for self-organised stays
Worldwide

  • For all fields and levels of study
  • Attendance of self-organized classes abroad as well as in the context of the thesis, e.g. also for lab work or summer schools (not for language courses!)
  • Duration: min. 5 days, up to 10 months (duration of grant)
  • Financial support up to 460 euros per month
  • Ongoing application possible
 

Rudi Roth Scholarship
Eastern and South-Eastern Europe

  • For all fields and levels of study
  • Research stays for scholarly work dealing with the situation in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe
  • Financial grant up to 4,000 euros
 

Marshall Plan Scholarship
USA

  • For selected fields of study (see programme page)
  • Research stays as part of the thesis
  • Duration: minimum 3 months stay (without arrival and departure days)
  • Financial support between 4,000 and 10,000 euros

For study-related internships abroad, there is the possibility to apply for additional financial support through the following two programmes. Please note that you must already have found an internship for the application.

Erasmus+ Traineeship
Europe

  • all levels of study (Bachelor/Master/Diploma/Doctorate)
  • Bachelor students: Application possible from 1st semester
  • Duration: 2-12 months
  • Financial grant up to 580 euros per month (depending on country)
 

Internship Grant
Worldwide

  • all levels of study (Bachelor/Master/Diploma/Doctorate)
  • Bachelor students: Application possible from 1st semester
  • Duration: at least one month
  • One-time financial contribution: 200 euros (Europe), 300 euros (outside Europe)

  • At a summer or winter school, courses or seminars on a specific topic or research area are offered
  • The duration varies from a few days to several weeks
  • Financing options for summer schools can be found under "self-organized stays".

Joint Programmes are international master's studies with an included stay abroad. There are currently 13 Joint and Double Degree Programs offered at the University of Graz. Further information on the studies and the application requirements can be found on the website: www.jointdegree.eu
