At the beginning of a semester abroad there are many questions. Often it is not quite clear how best to proceed - we want to show a few helpful tips for the first considerations.
1. plan
First, ask yourself the following questions:
- Which continent is considered? Which countries?Tip: let yourself be inspired by our Global Diary - the blog abroad or by reports of experiences
- Which of our mobility programs(CEEPUS, Erasmus+, Erasmus+ International, ISEP, iStudy, Montclair City Partnership Scholarship, Utrecht Network) will take you there?
- What are the partner institutions in this mobility program? How much ist the grant?Tip: if no offer fits, you can also do a self-organized stay, for example.
- Does the university offer enough courses in your field of study?
- Do you speak the language of instruction?
- When does the semester begin and end there (trimester)?
- When are the courses offered (winter/summer semester)?
- What is the cost of living at the place of study?
If you can answer these questions for yourself, the first step is done and you will then know which host university(ies) and mobility programs come into question for you.
Note: Applications are usually made 1 year or more in advance, so keep application deadlines in mind when planning.
2. apply
All info about the required application documents & deadlines can be found on our website on the page of the respective mobility program. You can apply via Mobility-Online (access via your UGO business card). If you have further questions, please contact our programme officer(s) the respective programs.
Please also attend our information sessions on the application process and contact us if you have any questions about the application.
If you are selected for a place, we will nominate you to your future host university. If the host university accepts your nomination, you still need to apply there.
Tip: In the beginning, the application process can seem quite time-consuming. But remember that more than 10,000 other students of the University of Graz have already successfully completed this process before you, and have fulfilled their dream of spending a semester abroad.
